Google Tests Add-to-Calendar Button in AI Overviews

Google appears to be testing a button that adds an event straight to a calendar from within AI Overviews. Researcher Khushal Bherwani first posted a screenshot on X on October 2, and Radu Oncescu shared a similar screen on October 5. Search Engine Roundtable reported the sighting on October 7.

Bherwani's screenshot showed a concert-schedule answer with a button underneath that sent the date and venue straight to a calendar app. He noted that when he asked the same question again, the button was gone. Oncescu wrote that what he saw was AI Mode rather than AI Overviews, so the two may have been looking at different surfaces entirely.

Search Engine Roundtable's Barry Schwartz tried the same query himself but never saw the calendar button appear. He did confirm that the AI Overviews results themselves shifted slightly each time he reran the query. That same run-to-run shift could be the reason the calendar button showed up once and then disappeared.

Google has not officially confirmed the feature. It seems to surface only for queries that include a date, such as a concert or event, and looks like a small-scale test limited to some users. Google has a history of quietly floating features like this before deciding whether to ship them widely.

It isn't yet clear what signal triggers the button. Industry speculation points to event name, date, and venue being easier to pull when a page lays that information out in a structured way.

If this feature does stick around, pages built around event information could play a slightly different role inside AI Overviews. Clear dates and locations have mattered until now, but writing them in a format that transfers cleanly into a calendar entry may start to matter too.

In Korea

Korean sites built around dated content, concerts, seminars, limited-time sales, would do well to keep an eye on how this test plays out. Structuring date information clearly now means being ready to benefit the moment a feature like this rolls out for real. There's no urgent change to make today, but separating date, venue, and time into a table or list on event pages is a habit worth starting early.
